The literal tide
What can be measured
Clinical evidence, neuroscience, diagnosis, risk, safeguarding, structure, boundaries, patterns and measurable reality.
Clinical clarity · Human meaning
Mental-health consultancy for people, professionals and organisations—bringing clinical evidence, human meaning and practical change into the same conversation.

The Two Tides approach
The literal tide
Clinical evidence, neuroscience, diagnosis, risk, safeguarding, structure, boundaries, patterns and measurable reality.
The symbolic tide
Meaning, identity, emotion, relationships, personal history, language, story, metaphor and human connection.
Support can be clinically accurate but emotionally empty—or compassionate but without enough structure. Two Tides works in the space between them.

Every piece of work is shaped around the person, team or system in front of us. No one-size-fits-all packages dressed up as personalisation.
Specialist one-to-one guidance to make sense of complex or overlapping experiences, identify patterns and prepare practical next steps.
Clear explanations, healthier communication and practical ways to support someone without losing boundaries—or yourself—in the process.
Reflective, formulation-led thinking for clinicians, educators and multidisciplinary teams working with complexity and uncertainty.
Evidence-based sessions that people can actually use: rigorous enough for professionals, engaging enough to be remembered.
Consultancy for organisations improving pathways, workforce confidence, early intervention and psychologically informed practice.
Complex research turned into accurate, accessible briefings, toolkits, training packs and materials for real-world use.
A resource in practice
A guided resource for one of mental health’s more uncomfortable—and more important—questions: how do we use diagnosis to understand behaviour without allowing it to erase impact, repair or possibility?
Diagnosis is data, not destiny.Science can explain how a pattern formed. Reflection helps us decide what we do with that knowledge.

Built around the real question
Resources are most useful when they do more than hand over information. We can shape the language, depth and format around the people who will actually use it, then explore it together so understanding becomes practical.
Specialist knowledge
It is usually where the most useful understanding begins.

Founder & Director
Senior mental-health nurse. More than 15 years of experience. Still curious enough to ask what everyone else may have missed.
Laura’s specialist experience spans first-episode psychosis, perinatal mental health, neurodivergence, trauma, attachment, safeguarding, complex assessment and formulation.
She speaks both the clinical language of services and the emotional language people use to describe their lives—without diluting either one.
The vision
Support that begins earlier. Families given clearer explanations. Professionals who feel capable rather than overwhelmed. Services built around how people actually experience distress.
Evidence and humanity are not competing ideas. The dream is to make them ordinary partners—in every room where mental health is discussed.
Start with the question
Two Tides welcomes enquiries from individuals, families, professionals, teams and organisations. A useful first conversation begins with three things:
Clear boundaries matter. Two Tides provides consultancy, education, reflective support and professional guidance. It is not an emergency service and does not replace medical assessment, crisis support or ongoing clinical treatment. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.
